ASTM D5949 – Pour Point of Petroleum Products (Automatic Pressure Pulsing Method)

We perform fuel quality testing by ASTM D5949, which determines the pour point of petroleum products. ASTM D5949 uses an automatic instrument that applies a controlled burst of nitrogen gas onto the sample surface while the sample is being cooled and detects movement on the surface with an optical device. Pour point is an index of the lowest temperature of a petroleum product’s utility for certain applications. Flow characteristics, like pour point, can be critical for the correct operation of lubricating oil systems, fuel systems, and pipeline operations.

We also perform pour point testing by ASTM D97DIN 51597IP 15, and ISO 3016. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.

Sample quantity required: 5 ml
