ASTM D1160 - Distillation of Petroleum Products at Reduced Pressure

We perform distillation testing by ASTM D1160 to determine the range of boiling points for certain petroleum products at reduced pressures. ASTM D1160 is used for the determination of the distillation characteristics of petroleum products, biodiesel, and petroleum fractions that may decompose if distilled at atmospheric pressure. The boiling range is directly related to viscosity, vapor pressure, heating value, average molecular weight, and many other chemical, physical, and mechanical properties. Any of these properties can be the determining factor in the suitability of the product in its intended application.

Distillation by ASTM D1160 determines, at reduced pressures, the range of boiling points for petroleum products that can be partially or completely vaporized at a maximum liquid temperature of 400C.

We also perform distillation testing by ASTM D1078ASTM D86DIN 51751, and ISO 3405. These different test methods use different instruments or procedures or are used for certain sample types. Click on the test method number to learn more about each test.
