ISO 6293 - Saponification Number

We perform testing by ISO 6293 to find the saponification number or the amount of alkali that will react with additives in petroleum products. Petroleum products can contain additives that react with alkali to form metal soaps. Fats are examples of such additives. Certain used engine oils, especially from turbine or internal combustion engines, can also contain chemicals that will similarly react or saponify with alkali. The saponification number expresses the amount of base that will react with 1 g of sample when heated in a specific manner.

ISO 6293 corresponds to ASTM D94 and IP 136.
