ASTM D3850 – Rapid Thermal Degradation of Solid Electrical Insulating Materials by Thermogravimetric Method (TGA)
We perform elastomer testing by ASTM D3850 to obtain thermogravimetric (TGA) data on solid polymeric materials used as electrical insulating materials. The thermogravimetric technique outlined by ASTM D3850 uses the mass loss versus the temperature of the specimen recorded during the exposure time to a controlled environment and controlled rate of heating. Thermogravimetry (or thermogravimetric analysis – TGA) is useful for determining the dynamic functional effect of temperature on the amount of volatile materials leaving a specimen as it is heated progressively to high temperatures. TGA can be useful for process control, process development, material evaluation, and for identification and quality control in specifications.
