ASTM D4419 – Measurement of Transition Temperatures of Petroleum Waxes by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

We perform wax testing by ASTM D4419 to find the transition temperatures of petroleum waxes by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This test can also be used for microcrystalline waxes. These transitions may occur as a solid-solid transition or as a solid-liquid transition. DSC is a convenient and rapid method for determining the temperature limits within which a wax undergoes transitions, from complete melting to a hard solid. Knowing these temperature limits can guide wax storage and application temperatures.
